Vision

School leaders have a responsibility and privilege to build positive relationships with students, staff, families and communities. They should use their educational experience and expertise to meet the needs of students and teachers while simultaneously managing administrative duties to ensure safety, financial and operational stability. School leadership does this heavy lifting so that teachers and students can focus on teaching and learning. A great school leader knows that great people who feel empowered, confident, supported and valued are the most important component of school success.

EDL 500 - Strategic Leadership

This course examines how data analysis, and the application of evidenced-based goals and actions influence school culture, student achievement, and staff performance. Students examine school data to identify gaps in student achievement, collaborate with stakeholders to develop a strategic plan, identify evidence-based strategies to improve student and staff performance, and utilize distributive leadership principles to support collaboration and engagement among staff members. 

EDL 520 - Instructional Leadership

This course examines instructional leadership in K-12 schools with special attention to promoting the success of every student through data-driven decision-making and evidence-based instructional practices. Students will focus on strategies and methods to build collaborative cultures of inquiry, establish teacher evaluation and feedback skills, develop master school schedules, and create needs-based professional learning opportunities. 

EDL 530 - School Culture and Equity Leadership

This course introduces theory, evidence-based methods and research-based practices that promote an inclusive and welcoming school climate to encourage the holistic development of every learner. Students will explore the impact of equity in school cultures, analyze equitable frameworks, and identify research-based strategies to foster cultural competency within the school community. 



EDL 540 - Human Resources Leadership

EDL540 addresses the critical role that school principals have as Human Resource (HR) leaders for all school staff. Although most schools have HR staff in the district offices, principals must be acutely aware of HR concepts, including school culture and climate, school personnel legislation, special education law, staff rights and responsibilities, and effective hiring and staff retention processes. This course gives you the opportunity to go in-depth on these issues and more, while gaining practical experience addressing real world problems. By the conclusion of this course, you will have developed a practical and applicable knowledge base of human resources leadership functions, which can be used in future roles as school administrators.
