Managerial Leadership Course

This course provides an overview of the managerial functions of a school leader and presents research-based strategies for ensuring the effective use of school resources including the integration of technology and utilization of data to drive decision-making. Students analyze the impact of policy and legislation on school planning and evaluate school planning documents for compliance. To promote a safe school culture students examine research-based strategies for conflict resolution and identify areas for improvement in their own schools or internship placement. 

Course Learning Outcomes

Standards Met in this Course

Standard I:

Principals demonstrate organizational leadership by strategically developing a vision and mission, leading change, enhancing the capacity of personnel, distributing resources, and aligning systems of communication for continuous school improvement.

Standard II:

Principals demonstrate inclusive leadership practices that foster a positive school culture and promote safety and equity for all Principal Candidates, staff, and community.

Standard III:

Principals demonstrate instructional leadership by aligning curriculum, instruction, and assessment, supporting professional learning, conducting observations, providing actionable feedback, and holding staff accountable for Principal Candidate outcomes.

Artifacts

Throughout CSU Global’s courses principal candidates research, analyze, demonstrate and apply skills aligned with the Colorado Principal Quality Standards .Candidates reflected on curricular and instructional initiatives at their school and collaborated with their mentors to develop a performance challenge goal. 

Artifact 1: Instructional Leadership Team PLC presentation

Represents: Collaboration with the administrative team to revise and improve our PLC model and practices based on critical reflection and evaluation of existing practices.

Evidence of: Understanding of and competence in building shared leadership, school-wide systems and data driven action to improve student outcomes.


Artifact 2: School Safety Plan

Represents: Development of a comprehensive school safety plan including proactive and reactive actions in accordance with district and state regulations.

Evidence of: Knowledge and practical application of essential elements for proactively ensuring student, staff, visitor and physical plant safety.


Artifact 3: Discipline Issue using SWPBIS

Represents: Analysis of real-time discipline issue and proposed action steps to address the issue with students and staff.

Evidence of: Knowledge of SWPBIS principles and practical application of each component to improve student and staff well-being in order to support academic achievement and growth for all students.

Artifact 4: Group Induction Professional Development

Represents: Development of job embedded professional development for a group of 10 induction teachers focused on teaching practices that foster oral language development and student engagement for all learners.

Evidence of: Ability to identify differentiation as area of growth based on student data and create actionable PD and coaching to increase teacher effectiveness and student outcomes.
